2023 Graduate School Mentoring Award for Graduate Students

Each CLA department is invited to nominate ONE graduate student for the Graduate School Mentoring award. Unlike previous years, when nominations were submitted directly by the students to the Graduate School, the departments should select ONE nominee, whose application should be submitted to the CLA Office for Graduate Education, which will select the CLA-level representative. Each department can use the most appropriate means for selecting its representative.

The deadline for submitting the departmental nominations is March 1st

The departments should solicit from the candidates the following documents in one PDF document in the following order:

  1. A curriculum vitae.
  2. A mentoring statement including the student’s mentoring philosophy, commitment, and accomplishments in mentoring (maximum of 500 words).
  3. One letter of support from the student mentees, advisor, or other staff members who have first-hand knowledge of your excellence in mentoring that provides evidence for the candidates’ mentoring achievements and abilities. The letter can be signed by multiple individuals. There can be only one letter of support.

The application selected by each department should be submitted by the respective graduate director for consideration by the CLA review panel at https://cla-purdue.infoready4.com/#competitionDetail/1894508 . A CLA panel of faculty and students will assess the departmental-level nominations, selecting one final candidate to be forwarded to the Graduate School. Each Department should nominate one faculty member and one graduate student with an excellent mentoring reputation to sit on the review committee.
