Dean’s Continuing Graduate Support Fellowship
CLA Dean’s Continuing Graduate Education Support Fellowship program for 2021-2022 gives each PhD-granting department one (1) year-long equivalent fellowship to be awarded to existing graduate students. Each department will select its own candidate through means and methods specific to its procedures and will forward the nomination to the CLA Office of Research and Graduate Education. Students in the final phase of their education, especially if their work was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, should be given precedence. Graduate students interested in this opportunity should contact their graduate directors for learning more about eligibility and selection.
Awardees cannot hold a concurrent RA-ship or TA-ship of any kind. The fellowships will be administered as RA-ships. If the awardees need to conduct research abroad or are not able to return to the US due to travel or visa restrictions, the necessary arrangements should be made through the Global Resource Office to ensure that the students will be able to work abroad for the necessary period of time.
Letters of appointment will be issued only after the CLA Office assents with the nominations. Each fellowship will provide the student $19,000 in support, plus $1,622 for insurance. Supplements are at the discretion of the programs, but they should come from each unit’s currently-allocated graduate education budgets.
In addition, the college will accept one candidate, nominated by each PhD-granting department/program, for a competitive allocation of five (5) other fellowships, at the same level. Nominees in the advanced stages of completing their studies or doctoral work will be given preference. Again, graduate students interested in this opportunity should contact their graduate directors for learning more about eligibility and selection.
The candidates for this second college-level round of awards will need to submit the following:
- A proposal, no longer than three (3) pages,
- Explain the nature of the project
- Tell how their work was impacted by the COVID-19 situation, if relevant
- A current Curriculum Vitae, and
- A letter of endorsement from the graduate director of the department/division
Departmental graduate directors should upload the nominations to InfoReady (in separately submitted nomination forms, with the proper field for “Initial Nominee” or “College-Wide Nominee” marked for each) before March 15, 2021 at 5 PM. The URL is provided below. The candidacies will be reviewed by a panel appointed by the Dean, and the final decision will be made on or before April 1, 2021. Please direct all questions to our office at cla-adr@purdue.edu. Thank you.
