CLA 2020 Distinguished Awardees Announced

Recently the competitions for the 2020 CLA Distinguished Awards wrapped up, and the winners were selected. It is with great pleasure and pride that we honor their accomplishments, and announce them here today. The CLA Distinguished Awards consist of the Distinguished Dissertation Award (DDA), the Distinguished Master’s Thesis Award (DMT), The Distinguished Master’s Non-Thesis Award (DMNT), and the Distinguished Master’s Creative Work Award (DMCW).

The awardees for 2020 are as follows:

  • Distinguished Dissertation: Mintao Nie, Political Science
  • Distinguished Dissertation: Adrian McClure, English
  • Distinguished Master’s Thesis: Reilly Kincaid, Sociology
  • Distinguished Master’s Non-Thesis: Kristen Smole, Pol. Science
  • Distinguished Master’s Creative Work: Jennifer Loyd, English

The DDA recognizes individuals whose dissertations contribute to knowledge by evaluating the degree to which a dissertation represents original work making an unusually significant contribution to the discipline. It is rated on the quality of the research approach and innovative components of the dissertation. It carries a prize of $500 and includes an engraved plaque.

The DMT Award recognizes individuals whose work reflects distinguished scholarship and research at the master’s level. It is rated on its substantive contributions to knowledge, as well as methodological soundness, and innovation. the DMT carries a prize of $250 and also includes an engraved plaque.

The Distinguished Master’s Non-Thesis and Creative Work Awards both carry a prize of $250 and include an engraved plaque as well. They recognize distinguished scholarship and research at the master’s level. Like the DMT, they are rated by their contributions to knowledge, as well as methodological soundness, and innovation.
