Campaign on Climate Change Launched by Colombian Students Trained in Public Communication by Purdue CLA Scholars

Six Students from the Universidad de La Sabana in Colombia, along with their advisor, partnered with Purdue University scholars and graduate students to raise awareness of the plight of Colombian coffee farmers facing climate change. After a year of research and months of production in 2019, the students premiere “Uprooted” [Desarraigo], a digital campaign for social media.

Uprooted is a web series to highlight the threat to the most important emblem of Colombia’s identity and a bastion of their economy; coffee. The campaign underscores that this is more than just a drink; it is an integral part of the country’s identity and tradition.

The project arose from a collaboration between Assistant Professor Andrés Forero, from the Universidad de La Sabana and Drs. Jessica Eise and Sorin Adam Matei, representing Purdue University. It was supported by the US Department of State, the program Partners of the Americas / 100K for the Americas, and by the Government of Colombia, under the name Nexo Global. The students, Camila Atencio, Vanesa Bernal, Laura Montes, Nicolás Bernal, Mario Isaza and Nicolas Rojas, are all seniors in the Universidad de la Sabana School of Communication specializing in media production with impact in public relations.
